TaxExact Reviewer's Comments
We found TaxExact Silver came up a little short compared to the other sites we reviewed. The price for Federal and State returns is $34.95, including E-filing of both, but the site wasn’t much different from filling out the forms yourself and had little in the way of explanations and help.
Navigation is easy enough and the site doesn’t give you error messages if you jump to a different section, which we liked. However, it felt less like a guided interview and more like a “just fill in the blanks” experience.
Novice-Friendly:
Since the help was virtually non-existent, with an extremely limited number of FAQs and no tutorials, this site wasn’t novice friendly or for anybody with questions. We also found a lot of grammatical errors, which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the product. Your best bet would be to go with one of our Top 5 sites, in this case.
Ease of Sign-up:
Signing up was easy, as all we had to do was enter user names, passwords, and social security numbers.
Feature Set:
Available features were basic to say the least, but we did like how we could easily jump from section to section, without having to click a Save button each time. If you’re knowledgeable about tax return preparation, and know exactly what you want to claim, deduct, and adjust, then TaxExact might be what you’re looking for.
Help/Documentation/Search:
As mentioned previously, Help was spotty at best, with a few FAQs on each screen, and their Live Support option, which would supposedly connect us to tax professionals, 24/7, didn’t work. All we got by clicking the support link was a 404 “This page cannot be found” page.
Summary:
TaxExact is something that’s best suited for a knowledgeable tax pro. If you’re looking for a tax preparation site with more help, and more overall polish, TaxExact isn’t for you.
